Quick Weight Loss Diets

No doubt you’ve heard of quick weight loss diets that promise results. Most of them can be extremely unhealthy, most of them will help you lose weight that will come back again when you try to get back to “normal”, most of them are completely worthless. There is only one fundamental truth to quick weight loss. Consume less calories than your body burns in a day (depending on your activity level, etc) and you will lose weight. How much you lose depends on how many calories you cut out. Too few and you risk not losing weight because of small errors or snacks that put you back at a “maintain weight” level but too many and you risk damaging your body. Luckily there is a large sweet spot that will allow you to lose weight and be safe. In general this is around 500 calories less than 10 times your weight. So, 250 pounds * 10 = 2,500 calories a day to maintain – 500 = 2,000 calories to lose 2 pounds a week. Use a calorie calculator to figure out the exact amounts for your weight/activity level.

You probably won’t like to hear this but there really is no such thing as quick weight loss diets. There are only varying degrees of safety depending on how much and how fast weight is coming off. A safe amount of weight to lose in general is around 2 pounds a week. This is slow enough that your body won’t damage itself by breaking down your muscles because it thinks it’s in danger of starving to death. Remember that your heart is a muscle and unsafe weight loss can cause heart damage. Also, even if you do starve yourself to lose weight it will come back as your muscles repair and your body packs on the fat out of fear it might have to go long periods without food again. Never underestimate the biological survival process our bodies are capable of.

Even though losing weight is as easy as cutting those calories this can still be very difficult for a lot of people. Quick weight loss diets can help you follow certain dietary limitations, calorie limitations, exercise routines, etc that will be beneficial towards your goal of losing weight. There are hundreds of proven techniques and diets to follow that people swear by. The problem is everyone is different so what works for your friend might seem like torture to you and vice versa. Don’t be afraid to try new things if what you’re doing isn’t working out. However, be sure that you’re not just upset over having to feel a bit hungry every day and skip certain foods. You’re going to have to do that no matter what. It’s just the reality of weight loss.
