The most obvious benefits of fitness and exercise is the ability to push yourself farther physically. By gradually pushing yourself farther as your ability increases you’ll find you can do a lot of things you couldn’t before. How much weight can you lift (safely)? Can you do a pull up? How fast can you run a mile? How long can you run? The answers to these questions are a main reason people exercise. There are a lot of not so obvious benefits and reasons as well though.
Our metabolism is increased with additional muscle mass. This means that even when you’re sleeping the more muscle you have the more calories you burn. The amount of calories our bodies need is increased which means you can worry less about how much you’re eating. This is great if you’re a foodaholic.
In terms of general health the benefits of fitness and exercise are second to none and equal to diet. Studies have shown that staying fit will reduce your risk of things like heart disease, diabetes, and other serious health complications.
Also just in terms of your general sense of wellbeing (or wellness) you’ll feel much better. Suddenly you’ll have the energy to do those things you’ve been putting off. Stress won’t have as large of an effect on you. Lots of little things that are hard to quantify but are major benefits of fitness and exercise nonetheless.
Never underestimate the benefits of fitness and exercise and how they can positively impact every aspect of your life. Proper diet goes hand in hand with proper fitness. Ignoring either of these two can lead you to poor health.
