Benefits of Dieting

Of course the major benefits of dieting are related to your health. The first thing you need to understand though is that dieting doesn’t mean losing weight to me. Dieting means watching your diet and making good choices at meal time. You can be at the ideal weight for your height and still have high cholesterol, blood pressure, be malnourished, etc, etc. While being overweight or even obese is a major reason to diet everyone should watch what they eat. People who tend to be more active can look healthy while eating lots of junk food because they burn lots of calories every day. That doesn’t mean they are healthy though!

The benefits of dieting are numerous and not strictly related to your health though. Eating frozen and processed foods from the grocery store means you are creating a lot of waste when you eat. Packaging from the products and oil burned preparing and getting it to you. So, you are producing all this excess food waste and the quality and type of food you’ll keep is subpar anyway.

I highly recommend sticking with fresh local foods whenever you can. Also, I personally believe in organic produce as I’ve seen numerous studies about the nutrient and mineral content of organic vs conventional produce. A lot of the weight from conventional produce is water weight whereas with organic foods you get higher concentrations of nutrients. It costs more but you’re getting what you pay for even if you have the same amount of food.

If you have the space for it an organic backyard garden can be a great way to get some exercise in addition to eating extremely well. Nothing beats freshly picked fruits and vegetables. The benefits of dieting on farm fresh food are tremendous.

You can find information on the health benefits of foods here as well as the benefits of nutrition. These two pages go into a more in depth look at various foods/nutrients and how they affect our health.
